Daniel A. Norman
Visual Artist / Fine Art Photographer / Street Photographer
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Daniel A. Norman (b. 1980) is a visual artist whose work has transcended local boundaries to achieve significant international recognition. While his aesthetic is rooted in the dynamic energy of New York City, his career is defined by a global footprint, institutional acclaim, and a fierce commitment to artistic independence.
Norman’s path to the arts was unconventional. Originally trained in Engineering and Computer Science at Brooklyn Technical High School and CUNY, he possesses a technical precision that underpins his artistic practice. However, influenced early on by his father’s abstract photography and his mother’s encouragement, Norman shifted his focus, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Brooklyn College in 2009. His time in academia was marked by immediate recognition; he was featured in multiple episodes of BRIC Media’s "Neighborhood Beat" and selected for prestigious institutional exhibitions, including the significant "African Diaspora in Brooklyn 2012," curated by Maria Rand at the Brooklyn College Art Gallery.
On the global stage, Norman has established himself as a formidable talent. In 2012, he was selected for the landmark international exhibition "New Yorker" at The Istanbul Museum of Photography. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, this exhibition placed Norman alongside heavyweights like Jamel Shabazz and traveled to Gallery Kara in Ankara due to its overwhelming success. His international reach expanded further in 2014 with his inclusion in the "Toit sur toit" exhibition at the Maison de l'architecture en Île-de-France in Paris. Additionally, his work has been showcased at major art fairs, including Art Takes Times Square and SCOPE Miami Beach during Art Basel week.
Despite widespread gallery interest, Norman chose a path of self-determination early in his career. In 2006, he co-founded BrooklyNYC LLC with his wife, establishing an independent platform to maintain curatorial control over his output. Since 2015, he has released his work exclusively through this entity and the BrooklyNYC Art Gallery in Fort Greene.
Today, Norman’s work is highly sought after by discerning collectors. His pieces are held in private and corporate collections worldwide and have been acquired by leading design and architecture firms, including the renowned interior design firm Bunny Williams. Daniel A. Norman continues to live and work in Brooklyn, balancing his role as a husband and father of three with his practice as an internationally collected artist.

In 2012, Daniel was selected to be in a group show, "BROOKLYN COLLEGE ART GALLERY PRESENTS: AFRICAN DIASPORA IN BROOKLYN 2012", curated by Maria Rand.

The exhibition was sponsored by the American Consulate in Turkey (U.S. Dept. of State) and curated by Rana Solaker. The New Yorker Exhibition was so successful, it traveled to Ankara, Turkey to Gallery Kara
